Casualty Insurance Markets in Turbulent Times: Trends & Challenges
 |
This PowerPoint presentation by Robert Hartwig, president of the Insurance Information Institute, analyzes recent trends in the tort liability system that impact casualty insurance coverages within the context of the property/casualty insurance industry. Tort liability costs over time and by state are examined as are the number, size and nature of outsize jury awards. Trends in defense costs, limits purchased, retentions and excess liability capacity are also reviewed. The presentation also surveys what the weakening economy and the credit crunch mean for the insurance industry. Noting that property/casualty insurance profitability and performance are still relatively strong but beginning to show signs of cyclical deterioration, the report also reviews recent trends in profitability, financial strength, underwriting, premium growth, capacity and investment performance.
The following presentation is called "Casualty Insurance Markets in Turbulent Times: Trends & Challenges". It was presented by Dr. Robert P. Hartwig in March 2008.
